the rectangular overhanging hinged top with moulded edge inclosing hollow interior, over conforming sides, incorporating single long drawer; the whole enriched with hiramaki-e and nacreous decoration, with various floral and geometric reserves(mon), the top with frolicking gazelle and various exotic birds in floral and foliate landscape, the sides and front with geometric mon depicting floral sprays, the interior with simple foliate spray on black ground, fitted with gilt copper hinges, drop ring handles and lock

Nanban - goods created primarily for the Portuguese market and literally translates as “southern barbarians”. 

A very similar coffre can be found in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY.
A second similar coffre sits in the Grand Vestibule, Windsor Castle

Late 16th - Early 17th Century (Momoyama Period 1573-1615)
